Privacy Policy

Here's the deal — mazha.live is a community rain tracker for Kerala. We built it so people can share and see where it's raining, right now. No accounts, no sign-ups, no tracking you around the internet. This page explains what little data we do handle, and why.

What We Collect

Stuff you choose to share

  Your pincode — The 6-digit code you type in to tell us where it's raining. We use this to figure out the approximate spot on the map. That's it.

  How hard it's raining — You pick a level (Drizzle → Extreme). That gets shown on the map as a coloured dot.
• ✓
  When you reported it — The timestamp gets saved alongside your pincode and intensity.

Stuff collected automatically

  Approximate location — Derived from your pincode. We never access your GPS or precise device location.
• ✓
  Basic device info — Browser type, OS, screen size, which pages you visit. This comes from Google AdSense and standard server logs. We don't use any analytics scripts of our own.

  IP address — Seen briefly in server logs, used only for spam prevention and aggregate stats. Not linked to your rain reports.

What We DON'T Collect

  No accounts, no logins — Nothing to sign up for. You just open the app and use it.
• ✗
  No name, email, or phone — We don't ask for any of that. If you email us with a question, we'll see your email address (obviously), but we won't store it or use it for anything other than replying.

  No GPS — We never request your device's precise location. The map shows a dot based on the pincode you typed, that's all.
• ✗
  No passwords, no biometrics — There is no authentication system. Nothing to hack.
• ✗
  No contact list, no SMS, no photos, no microphone — Rain reports are text-only. Your pincode and a number. That's the whole thing.

Cookies & Advertising

We use Google AdSense to serve ads. AdSense places cookies (tiny files stored in your browser) and uses device identifiers to show ads that might be relevant to you, based on sites you've visited before.

Google and its partners use these cookies to serve ads based on your visits to mazha.live and other websites. You can opt out of personalised ads here. You can also opt out of third-party vendor cookies at the DAA WebChoices Tool or Your Online Choices (Europe).

How Long We Keep Data

Rain reports vanish from the live map 48 hours after the last report at that pincode. After 2 hours they start fading (marked "Faded") and are gone completely after 48. Aggregated stats may be kept longer in anonymised form — no pincodes, no timestamps attached.

Account & Data Deletion

Even though we don't have traditional accounts, you can still request removal of all data associated with your device or email. Here's how:

  In the app — Go to your Profile screen and tap 'Delete Account'. This removes all reports and votes linked to your device within 24 hours.

  Via email — Send a deletion request to [email protected]. We'll process it within 7 business days and confirm once it's done.

Note: because reports are anonymised by pincode and we don't collect emails or names, we may not be able to identify every report you've submitted unless you include your device identifier. The in-app option is the most thorough way to delete everything.

Your Rights (GDPR & Play Store Compliance)

If you're in the European Economic Area, the UK, or anywhere else with data protection laws, here's what you can do:

  Access your data — We don't hold much, but if you email us we'll tell you everything we have.

  Delete your data — Use the in-app 'Delete Account' option or email us. We'll take care of it.

  Opt out of ads — Customise your ad preferences at Google Ads Settings.

Since we don't have accounts or collect names, most of these rights are exercised through your browser and Google's ad controls. We're happy to help — just drop us a note.

Children's Privacy

mazha.live is not directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 13. If we learn that a child under 13 has submitted a report, we'll delete it promptly. If you believe a child's data is on our platform, let us know.

The Fine Print: Crowdsourced Data

Everything you see on the map comes from people like you, reporting what they see. It's not official, not verified, and not a substitute for expert weather services.

  Not verified — Reports can be wrong, exaggerated, or mistaken. That's the nature of crowdsourcing.

  Not for emergencies — Always check India Meteorological Department (IMD) and official disaster management authorities for real, authoritative weather info.

  Use at your own risk — mazha.live, its makers, and its users are not responsible for decisions made based on this data.

Changes to This Policy

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top and post the new version here. We won't email you about it (we can't — we don't have your email), so check back once in a while if you care about this sort of thing.
